Delivered by Country Sports Ireland, the Lantra Shotgun Coaching award is a nationally recognised and highly respected qualification.

The aim of the course is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to enable them to deliver a basic, standard shotgun coaching lesson. The Lantra Shotgun Coaching award is a foundation block for all shotgun coaching awards and coupled with experience and practice will enable successful learners to deliver quality coaching, in a manner that promotes and maintains the highest standards of operational safety.

Course content includes:

  • Safe shotgun handling
  • Understanding shotgun performance
  • The shotgun cartridge
  • Cleaning and maintenance - range of shotguns
  • The role of the shotgun coach; Learning styles & shooting methods
  • The Basic Shooting Lesson (Introduction; Master Eye dominance; Stance; Gun fit; Relating target to barrels; addressing targets)
  • Basic health and safety and shotgun use
  • Wider safety considerations related to the coaching process
  • Basic shooting lesson - practical
  • Action planning

Course duration is one day and the minimum age for enrolment is 18 years old. Learners must be experienced and proficient in handling a shotgun safely and effectively and cannot be disentitled/prohibited from possessing firearms within the meaning of section 8 of Firearms Act 1925 or Article 63 of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004.

Country Sports IrelandMembers should 'Log In' to the member’s area before booking to take advantage of the discounted price for members. Non-members can join Country Sports Ireland online before booking and then book at the discounted rate if they wish to.

Please note: Country Sports Ireland reserves the right to cancel or alter arrangements for any course should there be insufficient bookings or in the event of unforeseen circumstances. We will notify course attendees as soon as possible in these circumstances
